Freshman shortstop Alyssa Taborn was three-for-three with three runs scored to lead the Erie Community College (11-15/7-11 Region III) to a 10-1 win over Alfred State College in the second game of a doubleheader this afternoon in Williamsville. Alfred State won the opener 9-0.
Erie exploded for six runs on five hits in the second inning of the second game. Sophomore catcher Kristin Ball was two-for-three with a triple and three RBI. Freshman centerfielder Courtney Bonivissuto was three-for-four. Freshman second baseman Krista Longo and sophomore designated hitter Belinda Hernon drove in two runs apiece.
Freshman pitcher Kara Edwards went the distance to pick up the win. She allowed one run on five hits. She struck out three and walked none.
Erie managed just five hits in the opener. Longo was two-for-two with a stolen base.
The game was ECC Softball's first annual "Strike Out Cancer" game. All donations collected will be given to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
