The Erie Community College men's soccer team scored three goals in the opening four minutes on its way to recording a 6-1 victory over Niagara County Community College Thursday at the ECC South Campus. ECC is now 5-2 while NCCC falls to 3-4.
Pablo Ordonez (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) scored in the second minute after Mohamed S. Mohamed (Lackawanna/Lackawanna) split the NCCC defense. Mohamed passed to Ordonez who used his left foot to find the far side of the net. Just over a minute later, Adan Mukumbira (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland) took a pass from Ordonez at midfield, ran past the defense and gave ECC a 2-0 lead. Just over 20 seconds later, Mukumbira gave the Kats a 3-0 lead when he converted a long pass from Abdo Yahya (Lackawanna/Lackawanna).
"It was a nice start after back-to-back losses," ECC head coach Bernie Feldmann said. "We had not been playing up to our potential so we had a lot of talks before the game about them being ready mentally from the start. We did want to be playing from behind early like we had been in the last two games. They really responded today."
Ordonez got his second goal 14 minutes into the second half with assists going to Jon Sikorski (Hamburg/Frontier) and Craig Raines (Gloucester, Va./UNC Greensboro). Dan Matuszak (Lakeview/Frontier) scred four minutes later to make it 5-0. Raines was credited with his second assist of the game.
NCCC's Mike Taylor scored seconds after Matuszak's goal before Naef Al-Hajjaji (Lackawanna/Lackawanna) completed the scoring in the 86th minute. Hajjaji and Craig "Robbie" Wittman (Buffalo/West Seneca East) completed back-to-back short passes to set up the goal.
The Kats play at Jefferson Community College Saturday at 2 p.m.
