Kats Fall to Fifth-Ranked NCCC

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - May 17- Niagara County CC scored three runs in the first inning and later would add three runs in the eighth as the Thunderwolves, the nation's fifth-ranked team, recorded an 8-3 win over the Erie Community College baseball team Friday afternoon in the first round of the Region III Tournament at Veterans Memorial Park.

\NCCC used four walks, a hit batter, a wild pitch and an error to plate three runs in the first.

The Kats, now 37-19, scored a run in the fourth and later added runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) led the Kats with three hits while Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) had two singles and drove in two runs. Sherman led off the fourth inning with a single and scored on a two-out single by Hoffhines. In the eighth, Hoffhines drove in Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) with a single. Barry led off the inning with a single.

ECC will play the loser of Friday night's Herkimer County CC/Onondaga CC contest at noon Saturday.
