BUFFALO, N.Y. - Feb. 10 - Erie Community College head coach Alex Nwora will coach in his bare feet when the Kats, the nation's sixth-ranked team with a 21-2 record, play Jamestown Community College Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.
Nwora, in his 12th season with the ECC program, is participating in the Samaritan's Feet "Barefoot for Bare Feet" program for the second time. The program intends to bring awareness for the plight of impoverished children who suffer needlessly from foot-borne diseases and infections due to the lack of shoes. According to Samaritan's Feet, approximately 300 million children wake each morning with shoes. IUPUI head coach Ron Hunter was the first NCAA Division I coach to participate in the program, raising over 140,000 pairs of shoes in six weeks.
Fans can donate shoes or money in the various donation bins in the Flickinger Center on game day.
Tuesday's event is free for all ECC students with valid identification or $5. All proceeds to benefit Samaritan's Feet.
The ECC Student Government Association is helping sponsor the event. For more information or how to donate, please contact ECC SGA vice president Amy Watson (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call 851-1031.
