WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 17 - The Erie Community College baseball team has now scored 10-or-more runs five times in its past six games as the Kats swept Broome CC Tuesday by scores of 11-1 and 10-3. ECC, which has won six-straight games and is now 21-11, hit three home runs in the opening contest of the Region III twin bill at the ECC North Campus.
Game one saw the first six Kats reach base and score to back the pitching efforts of sophomore left-hander Rich Corrente (Chatham, Ont./EPSC). Corrente allowed four hits and struck out six in the five-inning contest due to the run rule. Sophomore Matt Creenan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) hit a three-run homer in the first inning while classmates T.J. Singh (Toronto, Ont./Holy Trinity) and Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) also homered. Singh was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in while Grace had two hits in the contest.
Game two saw sophomore Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda), who was named the Region III Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, struck out nine batters and allowed three hits to pick up the win. Zellner also had two hits and drove in two runs in the contest. Singh added four hits in game two while sophomore Mike Wagner (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary's) and freshman Adam Urschel (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) each had three hits and scored two runs.
The same teams will play Thursday afternoon in Binghamton.
