ECC to Honor Orchard Park’s Blas at March Celebration

Thursday, February 09, 2012

Erie Community College recently announced its annual award recipients for its upcoming Celebrate ECC event, scheduled for Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 6 p.m. inside the college's historic City Campus Atrium. The night will honor local legacies and community feats of a variety of prominent Western New Yorkers. And, amid the announced achievements, few individuals may enjoy more than Orchard Park resident and owner of SJB Services Inc., Stanley J. Blas.

As a '72 graduate of ECC's Civil Technology Program, Blas will be honored as one of the college's Distinguished Alumni, an honor rightfully deserved by a man of his success and work ethic. Since establishing SJB in 1992 with a mere five employees, Blas has expanded his multi-disciplinary geo-services organization to 150 workers, including engineering technicians, geologists and administrative staff spread throughout four offices, 12 drilling rigs, and four full-service laboratories across New York State.

Since acquiring his AAS degree from ECC's North Campus, Blas has stayed involved with the college as a frequent guest speaker and as a member of the school's Technology Advisory Board. He has also lent his professional acumen to such organizations as the Buffalo Association of Professional Geologists (BAPG), Western New York's Association of Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD), Leadership Buffalo, and as a mentor, judge and sponsor of the national, project-based Future City Competition.

When he's not assisting the engineers of tomorrow, Blas can be found directing the forwards of tomorrow. He's served as a committed coach of youth hockey squads for 15 years, taking both boys and girls travel teams throughout the Northeast and Canada.

Today, Blas resides in Orchard Park with his wife and family.

Celebrate ECC is the college's signature special event that brings together students, alumni, faculty, friends and community partners - all to celebrate ECC and the impact this institution continues to make in our community. All proceeds from Celebrate ECC will be used to enhance the educational experiences and opportunity available to every ECC student.
