BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 12 - The Erie Community College women's basketball team will play Louisburg (N.C.) College March 19 at noon (Eastern). The game will be held at the CougarPlex at Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Ill.
The Kats, 21-5, won their second-straight Region III Tournament to advance to the tournament. ECC is led by sophomore forward Alexis Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East). She averages 13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game.
Louisburg, which won Region X, is also making its second-straight trip to the tournament. The Hurricanes finished third at the 2012 tournament. Louisburg is the tournament's second seed and enters with a 28-3 record. The Hurricanes were ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division II poll. They feature three players who average 10-or-more points per game. Guard Olivia Gaines averages a team-high 19 points, 2.5 steals, and 2.4 assists per contest. She also averages 6.1 rebounds per contest. Justin Parker averages 15.6 points per game and Jazmine Parker averages 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Depending on the outcome of the contest, ECC will either play at 9 p.m. March 20 or at 10 a.m. March 21.
