Four Kats to Continue Soccer Careers

Friday, August 17, 2012
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Aug. 17 – Four members of the Erie Community College men’s soccer team will continue their careers at four-year institutions. The quartet of Matt Goldwater, Pablo Ordonez, Craig Raines and Ben Sivitelli helped lead the Kats to back-to-back Region III Tournament appearances.

"The hardship of being a junior college coach is only having a player for two years but the reward is being a part of this crew's accomplishments,” ECC head coach Bernie Feldmann said. Feldmann, the 2010 Region III Coach of the Year, is in his third season with the Kats. “To see these four young men move forward in their lives as well as soccer careers is a very rewarding feeling and the programs they are going to are getting some men of character and quality."
Goldwater, a 2011 first-team All-Western New York Athletic Conference pick, will play at Medaille College. Goldwater (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) was also named a 2010 All-Region III Tournament selection on defense.
Ordonez, who scored 32 goals and recorded 18 assists in his two years, will join Goldwater at Medaille. Ordonez, from Cheektowaga, was a 2011 first-team All-Region III selection, recorded 19 goals and 11 assists in 2011 to rank eighth in NJCAA Division III. He also was a first-team All-WNYAC pick and was named the Region III Male Athlete of the Week after scoring four goals and recording three assists in two wins. In 2010, Ordonez was chosen a first-team All-WNYAC pick in 2010 and picked once as the Region III Male Athlete of the Week.
Raines will play at SUNY-Fredonia. He was a 2010 All-Region III selection at midfielder after opening the season as a goalkeeper.
Joining The College at Brockport program, Sivitelli (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) was also a first-team All-WNYAC selection in 2011. He recorded two assists in 2011.
The Kats, who return sophomore goalkeeper Rich Bund (Silver Creek, N.Y./Silver Creek) -- a second-team All-WNYAC pick, open the season Sept. 1 at Corning Community College.
