The Erie Community College (17-11/11-3) baseball team swept Finger Lakes Community College (8-20/6-8) in a key Region III West Division meeting this afternoon in Williamsville. Erie won the opener 10-2 and the nightcap 17-3.
Erie starter Rich Corrente went the distance in the opener to improve his record to 3-1 on the season. He allowed two runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one.
Leading 5-2, third baseman Emilio Arteta hit a three-run home run to left field that highlighted a five-run fifth inning for the Kats. Freshman center fielder Austin Benshadle was two-for-three with a triple and two RBI in the game. Freshman Mike Ferracuti had two RBI and scored three runs in the game.
Erie scored six runs in the third inning and seven runs in the fourth inning of the second game. Sophomore second baseman Alex Dusenberry was three-for-four with a double and two RBI for the Kats. Freshman Kyle O’Brien was three-for-three with a double, home run and three RBI. Freshman catcher Joe Hopkins was two-for-three with a double and two RBI and freshman Russ Hurley had two hits and three RBI.
Erie returns to action Saturday, April 17 when it hosts Broome Community College in a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
