ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2010) – The Erie Community College men’s soccer team scored three unanswered goals to rally from a 1-0 deficit and defeat Alfred State 3-1 Thursday at the ECC South Campus.
Trailing 1-0 after a defensive breakdown, ECC’s Pablo Ordonez (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga H.S.) evened the score midway through the first half. Adan Mukumbira (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland H.S.) picked up a loose ball and hit Craig Raines (Gloucester, Va./Greensboro College) with a pass. Raines dribbled through several defenders and drew the Alfred State goalkeeper across the goal. Raines then hit Ordonez with a pass who scored into the open net.
Halfway through the second half, Raines scored on a header from Omar Sundi (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland H.S.). In the 84th minute, Mukumbira scored unassisted with a blast into the corner of the net. Mukumbira entered the contest tied for 12th nationally with 10 goals.
“We played very stagnant the first 18 minutes and then it hit us we were in a game. From that point in, we stepped it up and played really well,” ECC head coach Bernie Feldmann said. “ ’JB’ (Gobran Nagi) played really well in net, making three or four beautiful saves.”
Nagi, a freshman from Lackawanna, finished the game with nine saves.
The Kats, 6-3, play Cayuga Community College 5 p.m. Wednesday at the ECC South Campus.
