BOLIVAR, N.Y. - April 14 – The Erie Community College baseball team got two more stellar pitching performance as the Kats split a doubleheader Thursday against Alfred State College. ECC won the opener 4-1 but dropped the nightcap 5-4 in the twin bill played at Bolivar-Richburg High School. The Kats are now 14-12 this season.
In the opener, ECC scored three times in the sixth inning to build a 4-0 cushion as Ron Lawrence (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cleveland Hill) improved to 3-0. Lawrence threw a complete game, allowing four hits. Mike Ferracuti (Toronto, Ont./Michael Powers) doubled and tripled and drove in one run. Joe Christiano (Depew, N.Y./Scottsdale) scored twice.
In game two, Cody Dunn (Ottawa, Ont./Bea Trice des Loges) threw a complete game, allowing one earned run while striking out nine. Alfred State scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning to erase ECC’s 4-2 lead. The Kats scored four runs in their half of the sixth as Ferracuti and Justin Carpenter (Ottawa, Ont./Franco-Cite) each drove in a run. Joe Pantano (Fredonia, N.Y./St. Francis) and Mike Wagner (Clarence, N.Y./St. Mary’s) each had a pair of hits.
The Kats are scheduled to play Niagara County Community College, the nation’s third-ranked team, Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the North Campus.
