Ice Hockey tops Monroe
The Erie Community College (14-4) ice hockey team used four power
play goals to down top-ranked Monroe Community College 5-1 Tuesday
evening in Cheektowaga.
The Kats took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Sophomore Phil
DiFrancisco opened the scoring on the power play when he scored off a
pass from sophomore Dan Wendt. Sophomore Tom Smith put the Kats up 2-0
on a power play goal with 25 seconds remaining in the first period.
Monroe cut into the lead with just 45 seconds remaining in the second period on a power play goal by Ricky Karre.
However, the Kats got two power play goals from freshman Ryan
Vertino and a goal from Nick Friol in the third period to pull away
from the Tribunes. Wendt finished the game with three assists.
Erie returns home Saturday, February 6 when it hosts Mohawk Valley Community College at 3:15 p.m.
