
CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
Program Competencies
Upon graduating with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology, the graduate will be able to:
- 4 Use micro-computers for problem solving utilizing commercial software
- Analyze and design structural members of steel and concrete for buildings
- Take and record accurate measurements with surveying equipment and complete various engineering layouts
- Construct multiview engineering drawings (conventional/CAD)
- Design and layout curves, drainage, and geometry for basic highway projects
- Perform and record results of various ASTM standard tests for construction materials, with special emphasis on concrete
- Identify soil materials, perform various ASTM and AASHO standard soil tests, and write reports on test findings
- Understand and interpret the requirements of construction contracts and specifications as they relate to the construction process
- Prepare plans for water and wastewater facilities from designs prepared by the engineers
- Inspect various phases of a building construction project for conformance with plans and specifications
- Detail connections (bolted and welded), prepare shop fabrication details, and erection plans for steel structures
- Analyze population trends, compute population projections, and analyze/prepare reports on the processes and operations of water treatment plants and sewage treatment plants
- Analyze hydrostatic forces and pipe flow
