Program Competencies

Upon graduation with an associate in applied science degree in Construction Management Engineering Technology, the graduate will be able to:

  • Manage and coordinate residential and commercial building construction projects.
  • Draw and interpret basic construction working drawings.
  • Supervise and evaluate the erection of wood, steel, masonry, and concrete structures.
  • Use CPM and Gantt techniques for planning, scheduling, control, and analysis of construction projects.
  • Use the basic principles of structural mechanics to determine applied loads and member loads.
  • Design basic members of simple timber, lumber, concrete, and steel structures.
  • Design basic heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems for a simple .
  • Perform basic material/labor/overhead/profit cost estimates of residential and commercial projects.
  • Perform building construction surveys, using a variety of surveying instruments.
  • Prepare and interpret basic construction contracts and specifications.
  • Interpret appropriate Building Codes and OSHA requirements
