COURT/REALTIME REPORTING

Program Description

The Court/Realtime Reporting: Introduction Program at Erie Community College is a certificate program for students who wish to pursue a career as court, freelance, and realtime reporters. Students will learn the machine shorthand theory using state-of-the-art equipment and software.

The program is intended to prepare students for transfer to SUNY Alfred State (online) or a similar educational institution to complete an A.A.S. degree in Court/Realtime Reporting.

Specific courses will be offered in language arts and communication skills, computer word processing software, medical terminology, and business law.

Special Admission Requirements/Prerequisites

  • Applicants should have at least an 80% high school average
  • Applicants should have strong English skills
  • Students will be required to purchase stenowriter machine and software totaling approximately $1,800 prior to the start of the first semester
  • Suggested daily practice time is 2-3 hours
