Accelerate New York - Program For Manufacturers
Openings Still Available For This NO COST Program
Manufacturing plays a critical role in our local economy. It promotes social stability, stimulates the economy through job creation and provides meaningful employment for thousands of residents throughout our region. On-going technological advances and increased competitive pressures have shed a new light on the importance of business planning in a global economy. A critical component of these plans is how a business addresses its training needs to insure its future competitiveness and viability.
Recognizing that many small to medium size businesses operate under their potential because they do not have a Business Plan, or the expertise and resources to develop such a plan, the Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Investment Board, Inc and the Western New York Technology Development Center, Inc. partnered in securing a grant under the NYS Department of Labor’s "Accelerate New York" initiative to assist local manufacturers in this area.
As a result of Accelerate New York funding, approximately 60 small to medium manufacturing businesses, with fewer than 300 employees and located in the five county region of Western New York, will be offered direct assistance in developing and/or updating their strategic plan. Staff professionals will assist each business in analyzing its operations, identifying opportunities for improvement and accessing the businesses market potential. As a result of a businesses participation in this planning process, companies are often able to set more realistic objectives and gain control of operational problems. Manufacturers who execute the plans developed, normally experience one or more of the following outcomes:
Improved definition of core competencies and market requirements
To more efficiently serve the needs of the Western New York manufacturing community, the Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Investment Board and the Western New York Technology Development Center have partnered with the three regional Small Business Development Centers located in the counties of Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara. Both the Western New York Technology Development Center and the Small Business Development Centers have extensive experience in providing both business planning services and staff development services to area business.
