Certificate Programs

BASIC POLICE TRAINING

Curriculum

Unlike the traditional academic program, law enforcement academies normally operate 40 hours (5 eight-hour days) per week and observe only the very major holidays. The student earns 30 semester hours of credit in a 17 to 20 week program; however, he or she has actually been exposed to between 680 and 800 clock hours of instruction, far more than a traditional student would experience if taking thirty hours of load.

Semester labels do not fit. To avoid monotony, topics may vary widely from day to day.  The sequence below constitutes the series of three credit hour courses which the student must complete satisfactorily.

CR 201  Police Physical Fitness
CR 202  Basic Law for Police
CR 203  EMS First Responder
CR 204  Police/Community Relations
CR 205  Police Administration of Justice
CR 206  Police Arrest Techniques
CR 207  Police Investigation Procedures
CR 208  Police Patrol Function
CR 209  Police Traffic Procedures
CR 210  Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC)
