ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Program Competencies

Upon graduation with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, the graduate will be able to:

1: Construction & Assembly (meets TAC/ABET a & d)
2: Circuit Analysis (meets TAC/ABET a, b & f)
3: Computer Skills (meets TAC/ABET a & h)
4: Systems Operation (meets TAC/ABET a & c)
5: Communication (meets TAC/ABET g)
6: Professionalism (meets TAC/ABET e, h, i, j & k)

  1. Construction & Assembly
    a.  Interpret electrical/electronics or logic schematics using ASA standard symbols
    b.  Construct an analog or digital circuit given its electronic schematic; recognize electronic devices, their coded values, and their function within a circuit
    c.  Solder, desolder, and rework electronic circuit boards
    d.  Use tools for electrical or mechanical construction
  2. Circuit Analysis
    a.  Understand electrical, electronic, and logic principles, concepts, laws, and rules; and apply these to the analysis of circuit operation and failure determination.
  3. Computer Skills
    a.  Using internet to find technical information
    b.  Using basic office software (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation)
    c.  Use computer as an analytical tool (Labview, Workbench, PLC software, AutoCAD, AVR Studio)
  4. Systems Operation
    a.  Install, test, troubleshoot and program microcontrollers and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
    b.  Install, test, and troubleshoot communication equipment, instrumentation and control systems, and electrical machines and controls
  5. Communication
    a.  Demonstrate good writing skills
    b.  Demonstrate good speaking skills and be able to create effective visual presentations
    c.  Communicate technical information through graphical forms
  6. Professionalism
    a.  An ability to function effectively on teams
    b.  A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in lifelong learning
    c.  An ability to understand professional, ethical, and social responsibilities
    d.  A respect for diversity and a knowledge of contemporary professional, societal, and global issues
    e.  A commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement
