All matriculated students are assigned a faculty advisor during the first semester at ECC. The advisor maintains an advisement folder and a complete record of coursework and grades at ECC. The advisor assists in planning academic schedules prior to registration and guides the student in academic pursuits. Students are responsible for following proper course sequences and for meeting graduation requirements.
The implementation of the Advisement Center concept integrates the advisement initiatives of academics and Student Services thus strengthening the academic advisement process and providing consistent information to new students. This concept is based on a holistic assessment of the student’s background, basic skills, vocational goals, and interests. The center provides a “one-stop” opportunity for students to gain necessary information on career choices and course selection to enable the student to enroll in college classes. College policies and procedures are also reviewed. The center is staffed by student service professionals and counselors. The Advisement Center also provides linkage to academic programs. ECC Advisement Centers deal primarily with the following student populations: non-matriculated, part-time, evening and non-high school graduates.
