Welfare to Work

In 1992, the Career and Success Training (CAST) program began offering programs to the Welfare-to-Work (WTW) target population. Today, this program is offered at 100 Seneca Street adjacent to ECC's City Campus and conveniently accessible through public and private transportation. The primary training candidate is the Temporary Assistance for Needy Family (TANF) recipient referred to the program by the local Erie County Department of Social Services (ECDSS) Employment Counselor.

Erie Community College's Department of Workforce Development joins the community partners to offer training and employment opportunities to Erie County residents.

CAST offers a 16-week training program on state-of-the-art equipment offered to Erie County residents and/or TANF recipients with a GED or High School Diploma: participants have the opportunity to acquire job specific skills followed by an internship and job placement assistance.

Additionally, life skills training are included for enhanced self-management. Topics include human relations, communication and job readiness preparation. This department is committed to lifelong learning through workforce development.

Programming has expanded from classroom training for the following 280-hour programs:

  • Office Procedures and Technology
  • Business Service Representative
  • Health Careers Clerk
  • Purchasing Assistant
  • Food Service Industry Assistants
