Erie Community College provides quality and affordable educational opportunities for all eligible applicants who are seeking post secondary education on either a part-time or full-time basis.
General Information on Admissions Policies
Erie Community College admits applicants into the college based upon two categories of Admissions: As a Matriculated or Non-Matriculated Student.
Matriculated Student
Students interested in earning an Associate’s Degree must be admitted and matriculated in a degree program. A matriculated student must score at an appropriate level on the college’s mandatory Placement Test.
1. To qualify for admissions into the college as a Matriculated Student {formally admitted into a degree program}, individuals must:
A. Hold a high school diploma, or a General Education Diploma (GED), or be working in a 24-Hour Program (explained under 24-Hour Program later in this section). Prospective students must provide the college with an official high school transcript or bring in the original diploma for the Admissions staff to verify or an official GED Score.
B. Complete all admissions applications answering all applicable questions (for further information, see the “How to Apply’’ section later in this section.)
C. Take the college’s mandatory ACT ASSET Placement Test and or have been waived or achieve certain levels of competency as indicated in the college’s policy.*
D. Meet all requirements by all pre-established dead-line dates. If you attended another college, you must submit official college transcripts.
2. All admission decisions are conditional with final placement in a program (matriculation) dependent upon the results of the mandated Placement Test.
3. Admission to the college will not be denied on the basis of age, sex, disability, ethnic origin, nationality, political belief or affiliation, race, or religion.
4. The college is making every effort to comply with the SED Commissioner’s Regulation 52.2d which states that the admission of students shall be determined through an orderly process using published criteria which shall be uniformly applied. Among other considerations, the admissions process shall encourage the increased participation in collegiate programs at all levels of persons from groups historically under-represented in such programs.
5. Admission to the college may take one of three forms: matriculated, matriculated-240; or non-matriculated.
A. Matriculated: A matriculated student is one who has been formally admitted into a program at ECC under standard college and State University procedures; i.e. a high school graduate with official high school transcripts on file, or the holder of a high school equivalency diploma, or college transcripts indicating completion of 24-transfer degree credits. The matriculated student must score at an appropriate level on the Placement Test. Matriculation, once granted, remains in effect as long as the student is in continuous enrollment at the college and is in good academic standing.
B. Matriculated NHSG: Matriculated NHSG: Matriculation through the 24-Hour Program will be granted to students over 17 years of age who do not have high school diplomas and have met the appropriate criteria. The NHSG student must score at an appropriate level on the Placement Test. The NHSG status will be maintained until these students have successfully completed 24 hours of college-level course work and have satisfied the high school equivalency criteria established by the State Education Department.
C. Non-matriculated: Non-matriculated: Non-matriculated students are students who have not submitted proper credentials, have not been accepted into a degree or certificate program, or have not met the minimum standards for matriculation. This classification excludes students from qualifying for financial aid grants and graduation until such time as they meet the requirements for matriculation.
After applying to the college, but before registration, entering students are required to take math and English Placement Tests. Information on test dates will be sent to all applicants.
