Erie Community College to host Eighth Judicial District Training Symposium April 9-10
More than 250 professionals from the criminal justice, drug treatment, mental health and Veterans’ Administration health care systems will be attending the Eighth Judicial District Treatment Court Training Symposium Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10, 2009 at Erie Community College’s City Campus, 121 Ellicott St., Buffalo, NY.

Training will focus on new technologies, best practices and research-based strategies for managing non-violent drug dependent offenders.

There are 3,000 active participants in 23 Adult Drug Courts within New York State’s Eighth Judicial District, which encompasses the eight counties of Western New York (Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming).

“The Eighth Judicial District continues to place a high value on training and education for its court employees, as well as its ongoing development and maintenance of its community partnerships,” the Hon. Sharon S. Townsend, administrative judge, Eighth Judicial District, said.

The symposium is sponsored by the Eighth Judicial District, ECC, the New York State Association of Drug Treatment Court Professionals and the National Association of Drug Court Professionals.
