Police Academy Open House slated May 21
Erie Community College will be holding an open house for its Pre-Employment Police Basic Training Class from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Erie County Law Enforcement Training Academy at ECC’s North Campus, located at 6205 Main St., Williamsville, NY.
The program allows students interested in law enforcement careers to complete approximately 80 percent of their mandated academy training prior to being hired by a police agency.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive an academic certificate from ECC and a New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services DCJS Phase I certificate. If graduates attain an adequate score on a civil service exam and are offered employment at a police agency, certificate holders will be eligible to return to the academy as probationary officers to complete a shorter Phase II program, which includes, but is not limited to, training on firearms and counter terrorism.
To qualify for the Police Basic Training program, participants must be legal residents of the United States and have no felony convictions. Candidates must also have completed 30 or more semester hours of credit-bearing courses, pass a physical agility test, obtain a physician’s release and pass an oral interview.
