Sophomore Joe Barrera had five hits and drove in two runs to lead the Erie Community College (14-10) baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Mercyhurst North East Monday. Erie won the opener 6-5 and the second game 11-0.

Erie opened a 6-1 lead the first game entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Mercyhurst responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh before freshman Shane Latshaw came in from center field to record the final five outs on the mound. Latshaw, Barrera and sophomore Brandon Caboot each had two hits and an RBI in the game.

Freshman Matt Fallon pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the Kats in the nightcap. He struck out two and walked three. Barrera was three-for-four with a double and an RBI. Neal DeMartin also was three-for-four with an RBI.
