Kats split with Niagara
The Erie Community College (24-21) baseball team split a doubleheader with Niagara County Community College Sunday in Williamsville in the final regular season game for both teams. Erie won the opener 14-5 but dropped the nightcap 13-3.

Erie has earned the five seed in the NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament and will visit Hudson Valley Community College Wednesday in an opening round game. The winner of the game will advance to the regional final four in Little Falls over the weekend.

Erie hit four home runs in the opener including two by freshman Joe Hewak, who was two- for- three with four RBI. Sophomore Brandon Caboot was three-for-four with a double home run and four RBI. Freshman Rick Cumbo was two-for-two with two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Terry McFadden picked up the win after allowing five runs on eight hits in six innings of work. He struck out seven.

Erie led 3-1 entering the sixth inning of the nightcap, but Niagara exploded for 12 runs in the sixth to pick up the win.

Sophomores Kyle Barcland and Chris Norman hit home runs for Erie.
