Erie Community College to hold 61st annual commencement May 27
American Medical Association president to be keynote speaker
Erie Community College’s 61th annual commencement exercises will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Kleinhans Music Hall, 3 Symphony Circle, Buffalo, NY.

ECC will graduate a total of approximately 1,700 students for the 2008-2009 academic year, including students who received associate degrees in September 2008 and January 2009.

Nancy H. Nielsen, M.D., Ph.D., president of the American Medical Association, will be the commencement speaker.

Nielsen, clinical professor of medicine and senior associate dean for medical education at the State University of New York at Buffalo, became the 163rd president of the American Medical Association in June 2008.

Nielsen holds a doctorate in microbiology and received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Also at commencement, Shawnterio McIver, who will be receiving his associate degree in Information Technology, will be awarded the 2009 ECC President’s Medal for excellence in academics, co-curricular activity and community service.
