ECC awarded $207,987 grant from Hazard Abatement Board
Erie Community College’s Department of Workforce Development has been awarded a $207,987 grant for non-credit safety training from the New York State Department of Labor’s Hazard Abatement Board, ECC President Jack Quinn announced Thursday, July 2, 2009.
This grant will allow ECC to provide 1,749 hours of safety training to approximately 29 companies in Erie County. It is estimated that 12,782 individuals will participate in the training, which will enhance their ability to analyze workplace hazards and implement changes to promote environmental safety and health at their workplace.
“I applaud ECC’s Department of Workforce Development for securing this important grant. By training more than 12,000 individuals at 29 companies throughout the county, ECC proves once again the significant role the college plays in providing flexible workforce training for our corporate partners in Western New York,” Quinn said.
The Hazard Abatement Board awards grants for programs that provide occupational safety and health training for public and private employers, labor organizations, educational institutions, non-profit organizations and trade associations. Eligible programs must train and educate workers, supervisors and/or employers and must promote workplace accident and injury prevention.
