Four new certificate programs added for Fall 2009 semester
Erie Community College has added four new unique certificate programs for the fall 2009 semester, including Biomanufacturing, Computer Security and Investigations/Digital Forensics, Emergency Medical Services Provider and Green Building Technology.
ECC’s Biomanufacturing program provides students with the knowledge of basic Biomanufacturing principles and laboratory skills along with knowledge of manufacturing practices, including Good Manufacturing Practices, Regulatory Compliance and Standard Operating Procedures. Students will also study basic laboratory skills, aseptic process and bio-safety.
The Computer Security and Investigations/Digital Forensics program includes not only the technological aspects of information security management, but also the investigative skills needed to respond to breaches of security.
Coursework will include topics such as hardware fundamentals, networking and network forensics as well as criminal law and criminal procedure relating to collecting forensic evidence, search and seizure issues and court testimony.
Credits earned are transferable to the University at Buffalo and Hilbert College criminal justice degree programs.
The Emergency Medical Services Provider certificate provides the training both career and volunteer providers need to respond to medical emergencies and provide pre-hospital treatment to ill or injured individuals.
The Emergency Medical Services Provider certificate, in conjunction with successful completion of the EMT/Paramedic certificate, will allow students to receive an associate degree in emergency management.
Students in the Green Building Technology program will learn the newest green construction technologies, including conservation techniques, environmental design, material reuse and energy efficient mechanical systems.
The students will also gain hands-on experience using new technology to install and test structural building components, HVAC equipment and distribution systems such as boiler systems, high-efficiency forced air systems, heat pump technology and roof top units.
Students may transfer all 31 credits into ECC’s Building Management and Maintenance Degree associate degree program.
“These four new certificate programs are evidence of the continually expanding academic offerings at ECC,” ECC President Jack Quinn said. “As the economy changes, ECC provides new certificate programs that respond to the evolving job market, such as Biomanufacturing, Computer Security and Investigations/Digital Forensics, Emergency Medical Services Provider and Green Building Technology.”
