2009 Construction Career Days slated October 7-8
Western York Construction Trades, in cooperation with Erie Community College, will be sponsoring Construction Career Days, a two-day, hands-on workshop for high school students at the Operating Engineers Training Facility, 2342 Pleasant Ave., Lakeview, NY.
Nearly 1,000 students from school districts around Western New York will be participating in this event, which is designed to allow students in grades 11-12 explore the various careers available in the construction industry.
Students will able to talk with representatives from local and regional contractors and construction-related businesses, as well representatives from ECC.
Along with the informational booths, students will be able to participate in hands-on activities such as mixing mortar, finishing concrete, laying block and welding. Participants will also have the chance to operate heavy equipment under the skilled guidance of a trained operator.
The event is sponsored by the Western New York Building Trades, Federal Highway Administration, Construction Industry Employers Association, New York State Department of Transportation, Rural Metro Medical Services and Erie Community College.
