ECC honors Mary Lou Rath at ribbon cutting ceremony October 29
Erie Community College hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate its newly renovated business administration smart classroom at the college’s North Campus to former New York State Senator Mary Lou Rath Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009.
The classroom now has a new smart classroom teaching station, new carpeting and furniture, as well as air conditioning.
During her tenure in the New York State Senate, Rath secured more than $600,000 in funding for several ECC facilities and programs, including $30,000 for the renovation of the business administration classroom.
In 2005, Rath obtained $100,000 in funding for ECC to build a state-of-the-art industrial refrigeration lab on its North Campus. Rath, along with Dale Volker (R, C - Depew) also secured an additional $300,000 in a SUNY capital account for industrial refrigeration.
The program is designed to train Western New York refrigeration engineers and technicians in industrial ammonia refrigeration hazardous materials and safety.
In 1997, Rath secured $175,000 in funding for the development of Child Care Center on ECC’s North Campus.
The Mary Lou Rath Child Care Center, which benefits ECC students, faculty and staff, opened in January 1999. Each year the center serves 90 children, ranging in age from six weeks to four years. The center provides children with developmentally appropriate programs which foster social, emotional and intellectual development, while providing a safe and secure environment for positive growth.
