Kats football shuts out Milford Academy
The Erie Community College football team played their stingiest defensive game of the season Saturday afternoon defeating Milford Academy 18-0.
In front of 250 cold fans at Jim Ball Stadium, the Kats defense held the high-flying Falcons to 156 total yards and only 43 yards passing in cold and gusty conditions.
The Kats scored the only points of the first half when Zedric Joseph (West Palm Beach, FL/Palm Beach) scored on a six-yard run with just 44 seconds left in the first half. The ensuing PAT snap was bad, keeping the score 6-0 at halftime.
Joseph also played the major part in the second half when he busted a 72-yard run for a touchdown to make the score 12-0. The touchdown was the only points of the game into the wind. The two-point conversion failed.
Rashad Payne (Pompano Beach, FL/Blanche) rounded out the game’s scoring with 6:08 left in the game when he picked off Trevor Van and returned it 32-yards for a touchdown. It was Payne’s second pick of the game and was one of four Kats interceptions on the day.
The offense was led by Joseph who rushed for 90 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns. Three Erie quarterbacks combined to go 4-17 for 54 yards.
Randy Bloom (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) led the defense with ten tackles (four solo). Naylor Robinson (Brooklyn/Erasmus Hall) and Bill Lauch (Wall, NJ/Wall) each had seven tackles. Robinson had two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Erie (3-5) will entertain won of the top teams in the country next Saturday at 1 pm when Georgia Military College visits Jim Ball Stadium.
