Community colleges around the country are experiencing record enrollments. Both recent high school graduates and adults who have been in the workforce for some time are enrolling in ever increasing numbers because jobs are harder to find and they need new or different skills to get the jobs that are available.
Erie Community College certainly has been a part of this trend: we’ve experienced enrollment increases of 6 percent or more for the last five semesters and spring 2010 enrollment has exceeded 18,000.
Unfortunately, when the community needs us the most, we are having the most difficulty meeting those needs. In spite of increasing enrollments, state and county budget cuts have forced us to implement a hiring freeze and reduce allocations for equipment and renovations.
We continue to be strongly committed to providing a high quality, affordable education along with the services that support the needs of a diverse student body. You can help by supporting the ECC Foundation’s Annual Fund. Unrestricted gifts are welcome; these funds allow flexibility for the college to allocate support where the need is greatest. The Fund also allows you to support a part of the college that is important to you. You may choose to donate to a specific department or program, or give support to scholarships.
On behalf of the present and future students of Erie Community College - the true benefactors of your gift - we thank you for your anticipated support.
