Five Kats Recognized on All-Conference Team

Five members of the Erie Community College baseball team received All-Western New York Athletic Conference recognition for their play during the fall season.

Freshman third baseman Mike Dirosa was a First Team selection. He batted .391 (nine-for-23) with two RBI and three stolen bases.

Freshman catcher Justin Carpenter and freshman outfielder Luke Szymanski were each named to the Second Team. Carpenter hit .333 (six-for-18) with three RBI and Szymanski hit .325 (13-for-40) with five doubles and nine RBI.

Sophomore Kiernan Harris was the Kats top pitcher in the fall and was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection. He was 1-1 with a 0.87 earned run average. He struck out 19 batters in 20.2 innings of work. Also earning Honorable Mention plaudits was sophomore second baseman Joe Hewak after hitting .313 (10-for-32) with seven RBI.

Erie finished the fall season with a 6-7 record.

Kats earn third seed for WNYAC tournament

The Erie Community College baseball team has earned the number three seed for this week’s Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament. Erie will host No. 6 Jamestown Community College at 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 29. The winner will advance to the semifinals to be played at Genesee Community College Saturday, October 3.

Erie finished the fall conference schedule with a 6-6 record. Offensively, freshman Luke Szymanski led the Kats with a .361 average and eight RBI. Sophomore Joe Hewak hit .357 with eight RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Kiernan Harris did not allow an earned run and struck out 10 batters in 13.2 inning of work in the fall. Freshman Alex Dannett was 2-0 with a 1.50 earned run average.
