Four Kats Receive Region III Plaudits
Norman Earns All-American Honors

After posting its 16th straight winning season with a 27-18-1 record, the Erie Community College baseball team had four players earn All-Region recognition, including one that was named All-American.
Freshman outfielder Chris Norman (Picton, ONT/Prince Edward) was a First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American selection. Norman hit .392 (56-for-143) with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 47 RBI.
Sophomore infielder Jim Banks (Lancaster/Lancaster) and sophomore pitcher Brian Wolf (Amherst/Canisius) also were named to the region’s First Team. Banks posted a .389 (56-for-144) batting average with 18 doubles, three home runs and 39 RBI. Wolf had a 7-1 record with a 3.17 earned run average. He struck out 45 batters in 48.1 innings of work.

Sophomore infielder Ryan Langdon (Niagara Falls,ONT/Stamford) was a Second Team All-Region choice. He hit .382 (50-for-131) with 12 doubles, three home runs and 37 RBI.

Baseball Drops Region III Opener
Region III Sub-Regional Game
Niagara CCC- 10, Erie CC- 7

The Erie Community College baseball team had its season come to a close with a 10-7 loss to Niagara County Community College in the opening round of the Region III tournament played in Williamsville.

Niagara, the tournament’s eighth seed, jumped all over the top seeded Kats early, scoring three runs in the first on a three-run home run by Sean Jameison and three runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.

The Kats cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by catcher Brad Gibson (Cheektowaga/St. Mary's).

However, Niagara responded to score one in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to stretch their lead to 9-3. The latter two runs came on a two-run double by Jordan Windisch.

Erie once again cut the deficit to three, 9-6, in the bottom of the seventh inning helped out by a pinch hit two-run double from Jeff Kasprczk (Buffalo/St. Joe's). Erie then had runners at first and third base with only one out but was unable to push across another run in the inning.

Baseball to open Region III playoffs Tuesday

The Erie Community College team will open the Region III tournament on Tuesday at 3 pm when they will host Niagara County Community College at North Campus in a sub-regional game.

The Kats (27-17-1, 18-2-1 Region III) will be the top seeded team for the eighth time under Head Coach Joe Bauth.

Erie faced Niagara County four times this season and won the season series 3-1.  The Kats swept the Trailblazers 12-2 and 6-5 on April 17.  The teams then split last Friday with Erie winning the first game 11-7 and dropping the second 4-2.

The winner of the game will advance to the Region III final four Friday at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia.
