Joe Bauth enters his 19th season as head man of the Kats baseball program making him the longest tenured head coach in the Athletic department. The skipper led the Kats to their 17th consecutive appearance in the Regional playoffs last year and looks forward to another successful campaign in 2009-2010.
After taking over a dormant program in which the school went winless in 1991, Bauth has turned the ECC program into the most consistent program in the region. In that time Bauth has led the Kats to the NJCAA Division III World Series four times, finishing fourth in the country twice. Eight times the Kats have entered the postseason as the #1 seed in the region and have reached the final four 9 times in the last 12 years. Bauth has been rewarded for his success by being named District coach of the year and Louisville Slugger coach of the year four times apiece.
Coach Bauth takes the most pride in the amount of players who have left the program and gone on to earn scholarships at the four year level. He has created the 3.0 club, distinguishing those players who maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher in the classroom. During his time at ECC Bauth has seen four of his players sign professional contracts; Joe Mamott, Tony Stutz, Rob Vogtli and most recently Tony Kirbus who was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2007 draft.
Joe makes his home in Lancaster with his wife Suzanne, son Brett (15) and daughter Jordan (12).
Tilo Mendiola - Assistant Head Coach
Tilo Mendiola enters his 17th season on the Kats bench. Mendiola has been part of the ECC program since the day Joe Bauth took over in the fall of 1991. After a stellar career as a player for the Kats, Mendiola has been involved in many aspects of the Kats program and works primarily with the Kats hitters.
This season Mendiola will take over 3rd base coaching duties this past spring and will bring an aggressive style to his newly appointed position.
Before starting his coaching career, the native of Vera Cruz, Mexico was an All-Region performer in 1993 when he compiled a .436 batting average leading the Kats to their first of 16 consecutive regional appearances. Mendiola put fear into opponents with his powerful bat and is still considered as one of the top handful of hitters in program history.
Tilo makes his home in Williamsville with his wife Joanne, son Ricky (16) and daughter Victoria (15).
Joe Mamott - Pitching Coach
Joe Mamott enters his tenth season as the Kats pitching coach in 2009. Mamott started his career at ECC along with Mendiola as a member of Joe Bauths first ECC team in 1991-92. After a four year stint as ECC’s pitching coach from 1998-2001,
Mamott left the program but returned in the fall of 2004 and has been in his current position ever since.
During his ninth previous years he has been part of three World Series teams and has seen a countless number of his pitchers earn four year scholarships, and two others sign professional contracts.
A graduate of Lancaster High School, Mamott played under Joe Bauth during the 1991-92 season. Following that campaign he received a scholarship to Canisius College where he would pitch for the next two seasons. During his time at Canisius Mamott would help lead the Griffs to their first ever MAAC regular season Championship in 1994. Highlights included no-hitting Siena his sophomore season and finishing 3rd in NCAA Division I in strikeouts per 9 innings (12.3) during his junior season. Mamott also was a first team all star selection in the New York Collegiate Baseball league during the summer of 1993, where he threw the leagues only two no-hitters as part of the championship Little Falls Diamonds team.
Following the 1994 season Mamott was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round and went on to play three seasons in the Red Sox system. Following his minor league career Mamott earned his degree in Communications from Buffalo State College and his masters in Education from Canisius. He has taught in the PE department at ECC for the past four years.
Joe currently makes his home in Cheektowaga, NY.
