Team Event

Women

The Erie Community College women’s bowling team won their 26th NJCAA National Title Saturday March 8 at AMF Lancaster Lanes.  It also was the school’s 49th NJCAA Championship.

The Lady Kats finished with a total pinfall of 12,263 which was 363 ahead of runner-up Hudson Valley Community College with 11,900.  Mohawk Valley Community College finished third with 11,163.

Erie pulled away Saturday morning in the second five-man block by defeating Hudson Valley 2,885-2,624.  Jessica Mamon led the way with a 267-662 set. Kerri Meden and Tori Stobnicki also had fine sets of 635 and 627 respectively.

The Lady Vikings won the Baker Block portion 1,653 to 1,560 over the Lady Kats in the afternoon session but it was not enough to overcome the lead Erie had built.

The members of this years NJCAA Championship team are: Sophomores Robin Donk, Tori Stobnicki, and Kathryn Kacalski; and freshman Alyssa Murphy, Jessica Mamon, and Kerri Meden.  They are coached by Tom and TJ Ruggiero.

Men

The Vincennes University men’s bowling team won their 15th NJCAA men’s bowling title by leading wire-to-wire.  Their total of 13,778 was 840 pins better than runner-up Mohawk Valley Community College.

Dan Rowe and Brett Shepard shot 667 and 656 respectively on Saturday morning as they maintained the lead throughout the day and ultimately won even though their Baker total of 1,597 was fifth. 

Erie turned in the day’s top Baker block performance with a 1,693, followed by Adirondack Community College with 1,652 and Hudson Valley’s 1,632.

The members of this years NJCAA Championship team are: Brett Shepard, Russ Mathes, Mikey Hill, Nick Atkinson, Adam Voth, and Allen Breshears.  They are coached by Gary Sparks.

Erie places three on Women’s All-American Team

The Erie Community College women’s bowling team placed three bowlers on the NJCAA All-American team as Kerri Meden, Jessica Mamon, and Tori Stobnicki placed first, second, and fourth respectively in the All-Events.

Meden claimed the Kerm Helmer Award as the All-Events champion by finishing with 2,328 for a 194.0 average.  She clinched the title by shooting 632 in the final five-man block.  She was immediately followed by teammate Jessica Mamon with 2,307.  Mamon shot the high set in the second five-man block Saturday with a 267-662.

Erie sophomore Tori Stobnicki used a 225-627 set in the final five-man block to leapfrog into the fourth spot to claim All-American honors.

Jamie LaBoissiere from Hudson Valley finished with 2,235 to finish in third in the All-Events and Lauren Dominick from Westmoreland finished fifth 2,184.

Vincennes University dominates Men’s All-American Team

Vincennes University dominated the men’s All-American team as Brett Shepard went wire-to-wire to claim the men’s Kerm Helmer Award as the All-Events Champion.  His pinfall of 2,686 for an average of 223.8 was 129 pins better than second-place finisher Brett Cunningham from Mohawk Valley Community College.

Russ Mathes and Mikey Hill from Vincennes finished third and fifth in the All-Events with 2,456 and 2,385 respectively and Ryan Paulson from Hudson Valley finished fourth with 2,417.

Four of the top five All-Events leaders held from Friday into Saturday.

Doubles Event

Mamon and Meden claim women’s NJCAA doubles title

Erie Community College freshman Jessica Mamon and Kerri Meden claimed the NJCAA doubles title at AMF-Thruway Lanes Friday on the first day of the NJCAA National Bowing Tournament.

The duo’s combined score of 1,127 was 62 pins better than teammates Kathryn Kacalski and Tori Stobnicki who combined for 1,065 in very tough scoring conditions.

Mamon had the second-highest set of the block, shooting 195, 191, and 194 for a total of 580.

The Hudson Valley Community College team of Lauren Pulver and Kelly Borden finished third with a total of 1054.

Paulson and Rowe win men’s NJCAA Doubles

The Hudson Valley pair of Ryan Paulson and Dan Rowe won the NJCAA Doubles event with a combined score of 1,243.

Paulson’s total of 692 was the second-highest set of the block with Rowe shooting 551 for the winning team.

Vincennes University finished second and third.  Brett Sheppard had the high set of the block with a 699 partnered with Allen Breshears who shot 534 for a total of 1,233.

The third-place Vincennes team consisting of Russ Mathes (652) and Adam Voth (557) combined for 1,209.

Singles Event

Mohawk Valley sweeps women’s singles event

The Mohawk Valley Community College women swept the singles event as Laura Corey, Sara Catrombone, and Becca Barton finished 1-3.

Corey shot 566, followed by Catrombone with 561, and Barton with 560.

The Erie CC women swept the next three spots.  Kerri Meden (548), Jessica Mamon (546), and Kathryn Kacalski (539) finished 4-6.

Scoring conditions continue to be extremely tough as there were only three games over 200 in the women’s singles, led by Mamon’s 221 and Corey’s 217.

Mohawk Valley’s Cunningham wins men’s singles

Brett Cunningham from Mohawk Valley concluded their sweep of the day’s singles event with a 685.  He had the block’s high game with a 267 also.

Brett Shepard from Vincennes was second with a 661 and David McClure from Hudson Valley finished third with a 648.
