Program Competencies
Upon graduation with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Office Technology, the graduate will be able to:
- Analyze, classify, record and summarize financial transactions, applying fundamental accounting principles
- Demonstrate knowledge of the computer and keyboarding equipment to produce and format documents
- Utilize current software programs for word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and databases
- Demonstrate an understanding of the communication process and its role in verbal and nonverbal interpersonal communication
- Develop oral communication skills necessary to conduct business transactions that occur over the telephone and in person in a professional manner
- Develop written communication skills essential for completing critical office tasks such as composing
- Develop communication skills essential for securing an office position
- Transcribe letters, reports, and other documents from various methods of input, including office-style dictation, to produce mailable copy with acceptable grammar, correct punctuation and proper layout
- Keyboard at 45 net words per minute
- Keyboard and format office documents from rough draft copy
- Perform basic arithmetic operations, with or without a calculator
- Apply basic arithmetic functions to business problems
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities by applying technical skills to office situations
