ECC’s Amanda Britzzalaro Receives All-Conference Recognition

Amanda Britzzalaro (Clarence/Clarence High School), who recently completed her freshman season on the Erie Community College softball team, was recognized as First Team All-Western New York Athletic Conference performer by the league’s coaches.

Britzzalaro was tied for the team lead with 26 hits and was second on the team with a .361 batting average. She also had four doubles and drove in 10 runs.

After a slow start, Erie won nine of its last 16 games to finish the 2008 campaign with a 9-17 record.

Softball Splits With Jefferson in Season Finale

The Erie Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Jefferson Community College (22-12) this afternoon in Williamsville. Erie won the second game 12-4 after dropping the opener 3-2.

Trailing 4-0 in the nightcap, Erie scored seven runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and the clinching run in the fifth inning. Sophomore Alyssa Schneider (Lockport/Lockport) was three-for-three with two RBI and sophomore Courtney Damian (West Seneca/West Seneca East) was three-for-three with and RBI to lead the Kats. Kim Gabor (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and Danielle Ellis (East Aurora/East Aurora) had two RBI apiece.

Schneider picked up the win in the circle. She allowed four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work. Damian picked up the last two outs.

Despite having just two hits in the opener, Erie had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gabor and Amanda Britzzalaro (Clarence/Clarence) walked with two outs and advanced a base with a wild pitch. Sophomore Jessica Orlowski (Marilla/Iroqouis) hit a ball to deep center field that was caught to end the game.

After opening the season with 10 straight losses, Erie rebounded to finish the year with a 9-17 record.

Softball Earns Split with Genesee

The Erie Community College (8-16) softball team split a doubleheader at Genesee Community College (22-13) this afternoon in Batavia. Genesee won the opener 4-1 but the Kats rebounded for a 7-5 win in the second game.

Sophomores Rachel Cirello (Lockport/Lockport) and Kim Gabor (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) each hit home runs for Erie in the second game. Sophomore Alyssa Schneider (Lockport/Lockport) pitched the first six innings, allowing five runs, and was two-for-three at the plate. Courtney Damian (West Seneca/West Seneca East) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

Damian struck out 10 over seven innings of work in the opener.
