Placement Testing

LOCATION:      Kleinhans Music Hall
TIME:                7:00 p.m.
WHO:                Any student that has applied for graduation for September 2008, January 2009 or May 2009.

Cap and Gown

Graduates will be able to pick up their caps and gowns previous to the ceremony at each of the campus bookstores one week previous to the graduation ceremony. Please have your ID with you. You may wish to bring pins to secure your robe or hat. These will not be supplied.

Your mortarboard is worn square on your head, parallel to the ceiling. The tassel should be to the right. Male candidates are to remove caps during the National Anthem.

General Information for Graduates

1. Graduates should arrive around 6:00 p.m. Doors open appromiately at 5:45 p.m.
2. Graduates should report to the Mary Seaton Room for robing.
3. Directions for the processional will be outlined by the organizers of the graduates while in the Mary Seaton room.
4. Following the ceremony, the students and guests are invited to a reception in the Mary Seaton room.
5. Parking at Kleinhans is normally $5.00, but this fee is being paid for by Student Government and the Alumni Association. Parking is fist come first serve.

Invitations and Admissions Tickets

Each graduate will receive four (4) invitations (these are for remembrances and keepsakes) and four (4) admissions tickets. The admissions tickets are for your guests to enter Kleinhan’s. Tickets will be collected at the door.  Because of space limitations, we are not able to honor additional requests for tickets.

Photography and taking photos

Parents and guests who wish to photograph their graduate must only use the far side aisles for photography, the center aisles will be used for the graduates to exit and enter during the presentation of the degree covers.

Before the ceremony, graduates and family photos will be available through a photographer in the lobby of Kleinhans. Various packages can be purchased. During the ceremony, a photographer will be taking photographs of each graduate as they receive their diploma cover. The proofs will be sent to each graduate who fill out an address card. These can be purchased from the company following receipt of the proof.

Disabilities

Graduates with disabilities should contact the Dean of Students at their respective campus for special arrangements.

Diplomas

After certification by their Academic Department, May graduates will receive their diplomas during the summer. Please notify the Registrar’s office if your current address is different than the address on the application for graduation. If there is a problem with your certification you will be notified.

Honors Designations

Gold Tassels – signifies graduation with high distinction (GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 as of January 2009)
Gold Braiding – signifies graduation from the Honors Program (A sequence of courses taught with additional requirements)
Gold Stoles – signifies membership in Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor fraternity

Faculty Attending Commencement

In order for faculty to participate in the commencement ceremony you must submit a request for academic attire to the Registrar’s Office. Please contact your respective Registrar’s office for this information.

Faculty need to report by 6:30 p.m. in order to have time to be robed and lined up for the processional. Faculty should report to the “bar” room located downstairs from the Mary Seaton Room.
