The following two generic course descriptions are available to each department listed on this page.

Department Prefix 888 (Course Name) 1-6 cr. hrs.

Designates a course taken at another institution and accepted for transfer credit by the department. This course number is used whenever no comparable course exists in the college catalog. This course number may appear more than once on a student transcript.

Department Prefix 998 (Course Name) Variable Credit

Designates a new course offered by the department which is being evaluated as to the appropriateness of the course to the major and/or the interest of students in enrolling in this particular topic. This course number may appear more than once on a student transcript.

Early Childhood

 
CC-150
CC INFANTS/YOUNG CHD
Discusses the developmental needs of the infant and young child and relates them to the daily care of children. Nutrition, health, safety, and common childhood illnesses will be examined. Special emphasis will be placed on the need to sensitize adults to the individual needs of the young child, the need for appropriate infant stimulation, and the development of language. Explores the influence of diverse family structures and behaviors on the growing childs personality and behavior. This course is open to students in developmental reading and writing. F/S (C, N)

EARLY CHILDHOOD ED I
Introduces the student to early childhood education. Examines the role and career of the early childhood professional. Discusses the history and theory of early childhood education. Discusses the social, intellectual, emotional, and physical development of the young child; the childs needs; and how the early childhood professionals and centers meet these needs. Introduces the activities and materials of early childhood education. Students visit a variety of early childhood education centers in the Buffalo metropolitan area. Prerequisites: Completion of developmental reading (if necessary), or by permission of department. Co-requisite: Concurrent registration in CC 201. F/S (C)

EARLY CHILDHD LAB I
Course correlated with CC 200. It is designed to provide concrete experiences with children and staff. In this supervised laboratory experience, students have the opportunity to explore their own needs as they work with children and staff in a professional setting. F (C)

EARLY CHLDHD ED II
Examines the curriculum and techniques of early childhood education. Introduces the student to programming and planning for early childhood education. Continues to examine the development of the infant and young child at home and school. Students continue to visit a variety of early childhood education center in the Buffalo metropolitan area. Prerequisites: CC 200 or by permission of the department. F/S (C)

EARLY CHILDHD LAB II
Course correlated with CC 202, designed to provide concrete experiences with children, staff, teaching and learning situations, and programming. In this supervised laboratory experiences, students have the opportunity to explore their own strengths and needs as they work with and observe children. F (C)

EARLY CHLDHD III
Explores the role of the teacher and assistant in relation to staff, parents, and community. Emphasizes the development of the teachinglearning processes and experience. Discuss programs, agencies, problems in educational services and experiences, and, reviews current issues and topics in early childhood. Prerequisites: CC 200 or CC 202, or by permission of the department. Co-requisite: Concurrent registration in CC 205. F/S (C)

EARLY CHLDHD LAB III
Supervised participation in specified community childhood education centers. Prerequisites: CC 201 or CC 200 or by permission of the department. It is suggested that this laboratory experience be taken concurrently with CC 204. F/S (C)

SEMINAR & FIELD WORK
Supervised student teaching experience in two early childhood education centers. The seminar and assignments are designed to support the students in their field experiences. Activities, lesson plans, and unit plans will be examined and individual student experiences will be discussed, both in seminar and in individual conferences. A series of special classes, class visits, and speakers will expose the students to many of the educational and cultural institutions of their community and enlarge the experiences they will bring to young children and their own knowledge of early childhood education. Prerequisites: CC 200, CC 202, CC 204, CC 205, or by permission of the department. F/S (C)

CURR PLAN FOR CHILD.
Explores the curricula for young children in a variety of educational settings. Considers curricula objectives, theories, and learning experiences (methods and materials). Prerequisites: CC 200 or by permission of the department. F/S (C)
 
CC-360
ART EXP./YOUNG CHILD
Explores art as a process of discovery, exploration, decision making, and creativity in the life of the young child. Considers ways in which parents and teachers may encourage and enrich this art process in the developing preschooler. Participants will have an opportunity to explore art materials and processes for themselves. Open to students in developmental reading and writing. F/S (C)
