The following two generic course descriptions are available to each department listed on this page.

Department Prefix 888 (Course Name) 1-6 cr. hrs.

Designates a course taken at another institution and accepted for transfer credit by the department. This course number is used whenever no comparable course exists in the college catalog. This course number may appear more than once on a student transcript.

Department Prefix 998 (Course Name) Variable Credit

Designates a new course offered by the department which is being evaluated as to the appropriateness of the course to the major and/or the interest of students in enrolling in this particular topic. This course number may appear more than once on a student transcript.

COMPUTER PROCESSORS
An in-depth study of the design and organization of the computer central processing unit, with emphasis on microcomputers. Areas of study include intro to DOS, Windows, central processor, timing and controls, memory and I/O operation. Prerequisite: CE 240, CE 241, CE 242, CE 243. Concurrent registration in CP 211. PERIPHERALS I
A study of the architecture and functional operation of computer peripherals, terminal interfacing, hard-copy terminals, and video terminals. Emphasis will be placed on the processor/peripheral control dialogue and data transfer. Prerequisite: CE 240, CE 241, CE 242, CE 243; Concurrent with CP 210, CP 211; CP 221. F (S)

MICRO PROC/PROG
A study in elementary computer architecture and in the operating principles of currently available large scale integrated circuit microprocessors. Support hardware necessary to connect microprocessor to its physical environment is examined. Prerequisite: CE 240, CE 241, CE 242, CE 243; Concurrent registration in CP 231. F (S)

DATA COMM & INTERFAC
Study of the characteristics, protocol, and operation systems and networks designed to interface with the computer. Methods of data transmission, types of communication networks, and interfacing with various communication lines are discussed. SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE
Comprehensive development of a preventive maintenance regimen plus the use of diagnostic programs to identify hardware or software malfunctions and isolate faults to a device or subsystem level. Prerequisite: CP 210, CP 211, CP 220, CP 221. Co-requisite: Concurrent registration in CP 261. S (S)

PERIPHERALS II
A study of the architecture and functional operation of mass storage and direct memory access (DMA) devices, including disk and tape units. The function of I/O programming and control will be emphasized. Prerequisites: CE 240, CE 241. Co-requisite: Concurrent registration in CP 271. S (S)
