The following two generic course descriptions are available to each department listed on this page.

Department Prefix 888 (Course Name) 1-6 cr. hrs.

Designates a course taken at another institution and accepted for transfer credit by the department. This course number is used whenever no comparable course exists in the college catalog. This course number may appear more than once on a student transcript.

Department Prefix 998 (Course Name) Variable Credit

Designates a new course offered by the department which is being evaluated as to the appropriateness of the course to the major and/or the interest of students in enrolling in this particular topic. This course number may appear more than once on a student transcript.

INTRO TO POLITICAL SCIENCE
An exploration of the central issues of politics; such as, democracy and dictatorship, types of governments, the relationship of the economy and politics, justice and authority, power and media persuasion, and culture and politics. Offered in alternate years. (C, N, S)

AMERICAN GOV'T 1
A study of the system of government in the United States including the structure and function of political parties, the Congress, and the Presidency, and those elements of society which affect these components. F (C, N, S)

AMERICAN GOV'T II
The first half of the course will be devoted to a study of the federal and state judiciary, including Supreme Court cases. The second half is an exploration of state and local government. S (C, N, S)

INTERNAT. POLITICAL RELATIONS
This course is designed to introduce students to the theme of world politics and evolution of world political systems. The course will address the following topics: system characteristics and factors that cause international systems to change, nationalism and national interests, power and force as instruments of international politics, North-South issues, the international legal system, progress in the resolution of global economic and social and environmental problems.
