| PHARMACOLOGY I |
| This course will study the drugs of abuse. The content will include the criteria by which drugs are scheduled, the controlled substances, and the uses and effects of drugs. F/S (C) |

| PHARMACOLOGY II |
| This course will concentrate on narcotics, depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, and cannabis and understanding these drugs as effects neurotransmitters and neuropharamacology. Procedures for controlling substances as well as drug classifications will be presented. Prerequisite: SA 104 or permission of instructor. F/S (C) |

| COUN. APPROACHES W/CHEM ABUSER |
| This course will acquaint the student with counseling theories, techniques, and intervention methods designed to interact with the chemical abuser. Intake, diagnosis, and assessment techniques will be included. Students are taught basic human relations counseling skills as well. This includes attending, responding, personalizing, and initiating with substance abusers. F/S (C) |

| FAMILY OF DYSFUNCTION SYSTEMS |
| The role of the family in the management of the chemical abuser as well as the study of the psychological stresses, attitudes, and behaviors of the family network will be included. F/S (C) |

| TREATMENT POPULATION |
| This course will introduce the student to the changing population of drug abuse along with techniques for addressing the needs of these special groups. This course is an overview of the seven-specialty population needs groups (SA 120-126). F/S (C) |

| CLINICAL INTERNSHIP I |
| This first semester of clinical internship will provide the student with a minimum of 150 hours of practical on-site agency experience and exposure to the professional treatment of the substance abuser. Under the supervision of specialists, the student will participate in all functions and treatment activities of the agency. In addition, a supervision seminar is conducted weekly during scheduled class time. F/S (C) |

| CLINICAL INTERNSHIP II |
| The second semester of clinical internship requiring an additional minimum of 150 hours of practical clinical exposure and experience. This semester usually provides the student with more hands-on treatment experience through individual case management and group therapy responsibilities. Supervised seminars are conducted weekly during scheduled class time. F/S (C) |

| SPECIAL GROUPS: ADOLESCENT |
| In addition to the overview course (SA 114), each student will take three of the seven special needs courses. These selections will provide the student with a special in-depth awareness which should assist them in their internship experience and future counseling endeavors. F/S (C) |
