Clubs and Organizations

North Campus

Membership in student organizations is open to all currently enrolled ECC students regardless of sex, disability, race, or creed and is not based on any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers mental or physical health or involves the forced consumption of liquor or drugs. The officers of a student organization must meet the eligibility outlined by the college, and meet other criteria as established by the constitution of the organization. There is a “Club Day” at the beginning of the semester. For further information on student clubs and organizations, contact your campus SGA office.

Alpha Beta Gamma

The purpose of the Alpha Beta Gamma is to recognize and encourage scholarship among junior and community college students in business curricula at accredited two-year colleges. Working toward this goal Alpha Beta Gamma shall provide an opportunity for the development of leadership and service, foster an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas, provide lively fellowship for scholars, and strive towards the stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

American Public Works Association APWA

The purpose of this club shall be the advancement of the theory and practice of the design, construction, maintenance, administration, and operation of public works facilities and services; the dissemination of information and experience upon, and the promotion of improved practices in public works administration; and the encouragement of the adherence by public works officials to a high professional standard.

Dental Hygiene

The purpose of this club is to provide students with the opportunity to inform and educate people in optimal dental health. This is done through visits to various community sites. Students also attend local and National Dental Hygiene meetings to broaden their education in the dental hygiene profession and represent Erie Community College through professional presentations.

Environmental Awareness

The purpose of this club is to make the public aware of environmental hazards. Activities include field trips, guest speakers, and films.

Flame and Ice

This purpose of the club is to generate and environment of support to Food Service Administration/Restaurant Management and other interested students. This club also helps students adjust to an unfamiliar academic climate.

Future Teachers

This club provides a forum in which we share ideas to help one another in our goal to be teachers. Our goal includes working with the SGA to promote a positive learning environment and helping our student body by providing peer tutoring.

Geology Club

The Geology Club is open to all ECC students. The objectives of the club are to enhance cooperation between students and faculty as a means of training for a vocation or a vocational interest in geological sciences, and to provide activities of an educational nature to enhance development of educational background outside the classroom.

Health Information Technology Organization (HITO)

The purpose of this club is to:

1) provide a non-classroom social and educational environment where the Health Information Technology (HIT) students can explore issues of concern to them while obtaining academic credentials at ECC and

2) promote the spirit of fellowship among the Health Information Technology (HIT) student body, as well as the entire student body of ECC/North Campus.

Honors Association

The Honors Association provides a focal point for all those students who have demonstrated academic excellence. A forum is provided for those students who value the fellowship of those who are dedicated to the ideal that the pursuit of knowledge is and should be fun. The Honors Association enhances the students’ involvement in societal concerns and provides the community with the benefit of its services.

International Students Club (ISC)

The ISC Club of Erie Community College is an organization dedicated to broaden the experience and improve the interaction between different cultures. The knowledge that the club acquires, will be available to other students and all interested parties in the community. National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)

The NSPE Delta 22, is an organization for engineering science students which attempts to provide insight into the professional side of their engineering career. Activities include functions along with meetings and dinners with the senior Erie/Niagara Chapter which is composed of practicing professional engineers of the Buffalo area.

The Newman Center

The Newman Center, located at 6325 Main Street, east of North Campus, is a center maintained by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo for all students, faculty, and staff at Erie Community College North. Students are always welcome, regardless of religious affiliation. The Center is a place for prayer, liturgy, study, counseling, and relaxing recreation. The Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Chaplain, Fr. Paul Steller, is available at the Newman Center and on campus for consultation. The Newman Center Students Association, an organization run by and for students, plans and conducts events. For students, faculty, and staff who are of the Catholic religion, the Newman Center is a parish. Masses are celebrated Monday through Friday, at 7:15 a.m., in Room 118, of the Student Spring Center. On Sunday, Masses are at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., at the Franciscan Sisters Chapel, 6380 Main Street. Marriages, baptisms, and other sacraments are also celebrated; and arrangements should be made with the Chaplain.

Nutrition Club

The purpose of this club is to provide the members with a view to understand the fundamentals of good health and nutrition and to continue this interest after college graduation.

Phi Theta Kappa

This organization recognizes and encourages scholarships among two-year college students. PTK provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service, and an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals, and stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Society of Occupational Therapy Assistants (SOTA)

The purpose of this organization is to enhance the development of students through vocational and social activities, and to provide opportunities for community service.

Student Optical Society (SOS)

Membership in the SOS is open to Ophthalmic Dispensing students and others who are interested. It provides an opportunity for its members to become better acquainted in a non-school atmosphere. Both social and educational meetings are held throughout the year.
