Start Here, Transfer Anywhere with SUNY Erie Community College!

The SUNY Transfer Guarantee Program offers New York residents who complete an A.A. or A.S. degree at a SUNY community college a guaranteed opportunity to continue their education at a SUNY four-year campus. While this guarantee does not promise admission into every major, it provides a guaranteed pathway for eligible students to further their education at a SUNY four-year institution.

SUNY Erie offers transfer agreements and dual admission opportunities with four-year schools:

Transferring From SUNY Erie

Major-to-Major Agreements

This agreement outlines the alignment between a specific major at SUNY Erie and a corresponding major at a four-year college. It informs students that completing a particular major at SUNY Erie is an appropriate preparation for transferring into the same major at the four-year institution.

Dual Admission Agreements

This is a special type of major-to-major articulation agreement for first-time college students who have completed 30 credits or fewer at the time of their dual admission request. Dual admission agreements guarantee a seamless transfer from SUNY Erie to selected four-year colleges and universities upon graduation.

Course-to-Course Agreements

This agreement is between an academic department at SUNY Erie and a corresponding department at a four-year college. Both departments have agreed that a specific course taken at SUNY Erie will transfer as an equivalent to a course at the four-year institution.

Transfer Credit from Another College

Submit an official transcript from all colleges you have previously attended to the admissions office. Once your transcript is received and you’ve been accepted to SUNY Erie, reach out to an advisor in your accepted major for an evaluation of transfer credits.’

Please note that only course credits, not course grades, can be transferred. A minimum grade of C- is required for transfer; however, some academic departments may require a higher grade. Additionally, certain courses may be considered ’time sensitive’ and may not transfer if they are deemed ’too old.’

Earn Credit While in High School

There are several ways you can earn college credit while still attending high school:

  • College Courses: You can transfer credit to a college by earning a minimum grade of C- in a college-level course taken at your high school or at a satellite location.
  • AP Credit: College credit can be earned by scoring a minimum of 3 on a high school Advanced Placement (AP) exam.
  • High School Agreements: Through our high school agreements, you can take certain courses in high school that will transfer as credit to SUNY Erie. For a complete list of these agreements, visit the High School Agreements page.

Reverse Transfer

If you transferred to a four-year college before graduating from SUNY Erie, you can still earn your associate degree through the Reverse Transfer process. Reverse Transfer allows academic credits earned at a four-year university to be transferred back to your community college, fulfilling the requirements for your associate degree. There is no cost for awarding your associate degree through this process.

To be eligible for Reverse Transfer, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at SUNY Erie
  • Accumulated a total of 60 or more college credit hours from all institutions
  • Maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0 at both SUNY Erie and the four-year college you attended

The Course Evaluation Matrix is an unofficial tool designed to guide prospective transfer students. It provides a list of course equivalencies for classes that have previously been transferred to SUNY Erie. Courses that have not yet been evaluated will not be included in the matrix.
