SUNY Erie Announces $1 Million Gift from West Herr Automotive Group to Modernize Vehicle Technical Training Center

SUNY Erie Community College is proud to announce a generous $1 million contribution from West Herr Automotive Group to support the consolidation, remodeling, and modernization of SUNY Erie’s Vehicle Technical Training Center (VTTC) in the Southtowns.

This transformational investment represents the next chapter in a longstanding partnership between West Herr and SUNY Erie—one that continues to strengthen the region’s workforce pipeline and expand opportunities for students pursuing technical careers in automotive service and repair.

“West Herr has been a steadfast supporter of SUNY Erie and a committed employer of our graduates,” said Dr. Adiam Tsegai, President of SUNY Erie. “We are truly grateful for Mr. Scott Bieler’s continued support. Our shared commitment to workforce development and technical training has created a long and valued partnership. This significant gift will be transformational as we continue to enhance our College’s learning spaces and prepare students for in-demand careers.”

Scott Bieler, President and CEO of West Herr Automotive Group and a proud alumnus SUNY Erie, has long championed the role of community colleges in creating accessible, high-quality educational pathways. West Herr’s engagement extends far beyond financial support, encompassing student recruitment, internships, employment, and mentorship.

“On behalf of the SUNY Erie Board of Trustees, we sincerely appreciate Mr. Bieler’s continuing commitment to SUNY Erie through this generous gift,” said Jeffrey Stone, Chair of the SUNY Erie Board of Trustees. “Scott began his educational journey here, and today he stands as one of Western New York’s most successful and philanthropic leaders. He has built, inspired, and guided an outstanding organization and embodies our College’s familiar theme of ‘Start Here…Go Anywhere.’ This is an exciting day for our students, our College, and our community. We look forward to celebrating this partnership and the future ribbon cutting of the revitalized Vehicle Technical Training Center in the Southtowns.”

The VTTC project will include upgrades to classrooms and labs, expand hands-on learning opportunities, and incorporate state-of-the-art technology. It will also realign program spaces to meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry. A new addition to the existing facility will house the Auto Collision program, creating a more integrated and modern training environment for students.
