Building Construction Fundamentals (Micro-credential)

Program Description

The Building Construction Fundaments microcredential will provide individuals with the knowledge to enter the residential construction field at an entry level position. These courses would allow a student to continue their education at SUNY Erie in either Building Management and Trades or Construction Management areas.

Microcredential stacks into SUNY Erie’s Building Trades Certificate

WNY community members who have completed an apprenticeship with the IUPAT union or the Orleans/Niagara BOCES Building Management and Maintenance program may be eligible for Prior Learning Credit and grant funding to help with books, tuition, and living stipends starting in the Fall 2025 semester. For more information about Prior Learning Credit and grant funding, please contact Katie Marshall at workforce@ecc.edu.

Upon completion of the Building Construction Fundamentals Microcredential, students will be able to:

  • estimate and schedule, labor, materials, and equipment necessary to build a residential structure;
  • understand common materials and methods of construction for residential construction; and
  • read and interpret residential blueprints.
