
David Sylvia graduated from Capella University School of Nursing and Health Sciences
(Minneapolis MN) with a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Administration and
Leadership in 2022. His undergraduate degrees include a Bachelor of Business Administration
degree in Business Management and an Associate in Occupational Studies Degree in Medical
Assisting. He currently serves as Medical Assisting Department Chair, a role he has
held since 2017, overseeing administrative and academic functions within the department,
including curriculum planning and development, which resulted in a new stand-alone
Phlebotomy and ECG Technician microcredential and a dual track Administrative Healthcare
Assisting Certificate.
David Sylvia also serves as Health Sciences representative on the FFECC Executive
Council and is a CWCC voting member. He has worked in in both clinical and administrative
positions in the healthcare community of Western New York since 1994 and has served
in various capacities with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and
its component organizations since 2001, including serving as President of the New
York State Society of Medical Assistants (NYSSMA) from 2018-2020 and is the current
President and Public Policy Officer of the Erie County Chapter of Medical Assistants.
He also serves as a national MAERB Site Surveyor, ensuring continuous quality medical
assisting education across accredited programs throughout the country, continues to
maintain his CMA (AAMA) credential, and looks forward to sharing his knowledge and
experiences with allied health students and fellow medical assistants to inspire confidence
in future graduates and uplift others to lead with purpose.
