Lab Based Health Sciences

Lab-Based Medical Professions

Have you always wanted to work in the medical field but you like the idea of working behind the scenes? SUNY Erie offers a number of programs that can give you the best of both worlds.

New for Fall 2021 - Biotechnological Science Cannabis Concentration (A.A.S.)
The Cannabis Industry is one of the fastest growing industries across the country and in the region.  SUNY Erie's new cannabis curriculum produces well rounded graduates with laboratory skills transferrable to many positions within the industry. Graduates will seek positions as industrial cannabis technicians (equipment operation, product quality control, and pest management), quality inspectors (maintain compliance with health, safety and potency standards), and cultivation (horticulture, botany and pest management).

Clinical Laboratory Technician (A.A.S.)
The modern clinical laboratory technician applies knowledge from the physical and biological sciences to the detection and management of disease. The use of state-of-the-art equipment in the analysis of blood and body fluids, as well as computerized patient data entry systems, allows the students to gain the skills necessary to perform effectively on the Board of Certification Licensure examination.

Dental Laboratory Technology (A.A.S.)
Through SUNY Erie’s unique Dental Laboratory Technology Program, students are instructed in all aspects of dental laboratory technology. The goal of the Dental Laboratory Technology Program is to train students to be capable of the design, fabrication and production of dental prostheses, including full and partial dentures, crowns, bridges and orthodontic appliances. New state-of-the-art techniques, equipment and materials are emphasized, i.e. implantology, cosmetic dentistry and CAD/CAM technology.

Vision Care Technology (A.A.S.)
With the increase in the nation's population and the aging of the baby boom generation, the demand for vision care services and a trained corps of ophthalmic professionals has risen. Students will learn the necessary theoretical and practical training to successfully complete the American Board of Opticianry, National Contact Lens Examination and New York State licensing exams in Ophthalmic Dispensing and Contact Lenses.
