SUNY Erie Community College extends its deepest appreciation to Len Lenihan for his many years of dedicated service on the College’s Board of Trustees.

Len served with distinction during two terms, from January 2013 to October 2014 and again from July 2017 through September 2025. During his tenure, he shared his expertise and steady leadership across several key committees, including Budget, Audit and Facilities; Marketing; and Talent, Diversity, Equity, and Belonging.

Thoughtful, intelligent, and deeply student-centered, Len was a trusted voice on the Board and a champion for opportunity and equity. His leadership helped guide the College through important periods of growth and change, always keeping students at the heart of every discussion.

Len’s commitment to public service extends far beyond SUNY Erie. His remarkable career in civic leadership began in 1977, when he was first elected to the Erie County Legislature. Over the decades, he has devoted his life to serving the people of Western New York with integrity and compassion.

In recognition of his lasting contributions and strong leadership, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz proclaimed October 30, 2025, as “Len Lenihan Day” in Erie County.

SUNY Erie proudly joins the community in celebrating Len’s decades of public service and his lasting impact on the College, its students, and the region.
