SUNY Erie Football Coach to Take Leave of Absence

Article by: Paula Sandy

SUNY Erie Community College head football coach Scott Pilkey is taking a leave of absence from the team for medical reasons for an indefinite time, the College announced today.

“Scott has requested a leave of absence as he deals with some medical issues and the College has granted that request,” said SUNY Erie athletic director Steve Mullen. “Our primary focus is to ensure Scott and his family have our full support while he is away from the team. Out of respect for Scott, we are unable to elaborate further and ask that everyone respect his privacy at this time.”

Current SUNY Erie Special Teams Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Mike Kemp will assume the role of interim head coach in Pilkey's absence. Prior to joining SUNY Erie in 2018, Kemp previously held college coaching positions with Norwich University, SUNY Brockport, Utica College, Plymouth State College and SUNY Cortland, among others.

“Coach Kemp’s breadth of experience will provide our players with the needed stability as we play on through the remainder of the season,” Mullen said. “Our coaching staff and the team have full the support of the college community for a strong finish to the 2019 campaign.”
